Burton Custom ICS Review.

In this episode, Rick reviews the pros and cons of the Burton Custom ICS size 158 with the channel. He bought it on proform in 2008 as a do-everything snowboard and used it all season for teaching and general riding.

Pros: The Burton Custom is a great all-mountain snowboard for beginners through experts. It’s very versatile, making it soft enough to butter and jib, but still turns quickly and holds an edge well. It’s very easy to turn, which makes it good for beginners and fun on groomed runs.  The directional shape makes the turn shape smooth throughout, meaning that it naturally has a nice “c” shape.  In powder, I had to sit back a little to keep the nose up, but was able to make it down any terrain.
The Chanel for mounting bindings is AWESOME.  After using them on two boards for a full year, I won’t ride anything else (at least from Burton).
Cons: The softness that makes this snowboard good in the park causes it to chatter and wash out at high speeds.
The Custom is a really good snowboard for most riders.  It does pretty well on almost any terrain.  It’s not as good for rails or high speed carving, but better than most other snowboards across the spectrum.
Who should buy this snowboard:  This is a great snowboard for anyone wanting one snowboard that can handle everything on the mountain.  The Custom is versatile and forgiving enough so beginners can learn on it. Because it’s good for experts, beginners won’t need to upgrade to a better board as their skills progress. You may decide to get a few specialized snowboards to tackle powder and park. If you don’t know what terrain you want to specialize in, the Custom is a safe choice.
If you’ve got big feet (over size 10.5ish), you’ll need to get the Custom Wide.
Really aggressive carvers should consider upgrading to a stiffer snowboard like the Custom X. A stiffer snowboard will give you better control at high speed for more satisfying carves.
